Unlicensed Drunk Driver Rams Into Four Cyclists
On Sunday, September 9, 2017, a crazed driver plowed into a group of cyclists who were riding in Brooklyn in the NYC Century Bike Tour. The accident has left one woman in a coma and fighting for her life.
The accident left one cyclist trapped underneath the crazed man’s van. The driver of the Dodge Caravan reportedly got out of the van with bloodshot eyes looking dazed.
According to authorities, the 39-year-old van driver first crashed into an unoccupied minivan as he pulled out of a parking spot at about 9 a.m. on Sunday. Over 25-cyclists witnessed this accident as they were waiting at the spotlight at 139th St. and the 12th Ave. The cyclists saw the man come to a stop behind the group and then he suddenly accelerated.
When the driver got out of the car, a bystander threw him to the ground as people called 911. Firefighters had to use jacks to lift the van off of the woman who was pinned underneath the van.
The driver was charged with driving while intoxicated.
Woman Struck By Drunk Driver Dies Two Days After Hospital Release
A Brooklyn mom is heartbroken after her daughter, who was the victim of a drunk driver accident, died two days after she was released from the hospital.
The 36-year-old daughter was plowed into by an allegedly drunk driver. According to the mother, her daughter was alert and in good spirits when she got back from the hospital until things took a fatal turn. She collapsed and went into cardiac arrest.
The mom does not blame the hospital for her daughter’s death, instead, she blames the alleged 23-year-old drunk driver. The 23-year-old was driving an Infiniti Sedan when he drove down the sidewalk on Halsey St. and Wilson Ave. in Bushwick on Monday, September 11, 2017. The driver crashed into half-dozen pedestrians including the now deceased woman.
Sadly, he kept on driving and eventually crashed into a cab on Schaefer St. according to police reports. The man was charged with vehicular assault, drunken driving, and reckless endangerment. He was released on $10, 000 bond. The 36-year-old’s mother is angry at the man’s release and has stated that she wants justice for her daughter’s death.
Two Construction Workers Fall To Their Death On The Same Day
On Thursday, September 21, 2017, two construction workers fell to their death at two different job sites in New York City. These accidents sparked renewed talks for more safety on New York construction sites.
In one of the accidents, a 36-year-old worker and father of five fell 29 stories from a building. He died at the scene of the accident. According to FDNY officials, the fatal accident took place around 9.15 a.m.
It is believed that the accident was a result of the man getting stuck as he was trying to free a crane from the building and the cable got stuck. He was a trained and certified construction worker. and was reportedly a very careful worker.
Later on that day, another incident happened where a 45-year-old man fell from a bucket lift close to 36 feet off the ground. He too died at the scene of the accident. A third man was injured in this accident due to a tumble from the lift. He suffered head trauma and was transported to Bellevue Hospital. He is, fortunately, in stable condition.
Both of these accidents are under investigation and they once again bring to the surface the ongoing issue of safety in New York with the increased number of construction accidents on job sites.
